Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day began in 1993 simply as “Take Our Daughters To Work Day.” It was designed to help girls “connect what they were learning in the classroom to the world of work,” and introduce them to a world of options of which they weren’t necessarily aware. Since 2003, the program has included both girls and boys, with the same mission: to teach our nation’s children what they are capable of.

Even though commencement season is just past us, we wanted to be sure to share with you a particularly inspiring speech that Cong. Chellie Pingree (ME-01) gave to the newest crop of graduates from Bowdoin College.

Cong. Chellie Pingree [left] joined Debbie onstage for a charity performance at the Harman Theater in D.C. to benefit Shakespeare programs for children. The Harman is home to Washington's Shakepeare Theatre Company and, while it's featured plenty of stellar performances, it's hard to imagine they've seen anything quite like this before...

It's a stunning statistic driven at least in part by rising health care costs and increasingly unaffordable co-pays. When you add in an economy that has left many people struggling to just make ends meet, you can see how millions of American women have found basic contraceptive health services are out of reach.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL) knocked it out of the park last night -- at least as far as fundraising goes. The Florida congresswoman organized the first-ever female congressional softball game, which brought in $40,000 for Young Survival Coalition, a breast cancer charity.

Last year, I sat in my Washington office and listened to five women tell painful stories of how they had been sexually assaulted while in uniform. Each one of them had been a committed professional, each one had dreamed of a career in the military, each one had dedicated their life to serving our country. Each one was not only the victim of an assault, but also a victim of a very flawed system for responding to these attacks.

With the Republican line-up looking more and more like a front for BP, their heavy hitters such as Joe Barton and Michele Bachmann should look out for one of our own, Cong. Chellie Pingree.
