Allison Janney's Message to EMILY's List members
During the dark days of the last administration, millions of Americans watched Martin Sheen play an intelligent, compassionate president on The West Wing. Isn't it exciting to have the real thing in Barack Obama?
President Obama has set us on a course to move our country in a more hopeful, positive direction, but the opposition still is determined to thwart this effort. If we are serious about rebuilding America, we need to elect strong, progressive women to help President Obama succeed. With Republicans already on the air attacking our candidates and busy distorting President Obama's accomplishments, every contribution EMILY's List receives will be put to use right away.
C.J. Cregg, my character on The West Wing, worked at EMILY's List before she joined the White House. C.J. explained what you already know -- that EMILY’s List stands for "Early Money Is Like Yeast -- it helps raise the dough." Your contribution will be used immediately to:
Recruit strong, pro-choice Democratic women candidates and build a talented, progressive field for 2010.
Build campaigns for incumbent women candidates who are GOP targets by providing strategic advice and financial support.
Ensure strong starts for Robin Carnahan of Missouri, who is running for an open seat left by Republican Senator Kit Bond, and newly-appointed Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, who must win her first statewide election in 2010.
We can achieve a progressive vision if all of us -- including the more than 100,000 members of EMILY's List -- work together to make it happen.
I hope you will contribute to EMILY's List today and help President Obama get the job done with stronger Democratic majorities in Congress.
Thank you for your support.
With appreciation,

Allison Janney
