About Run to Win

Run to Win

Run to Win at EMILYs List is a national recruitment and training campaign focused on helping Democratic pro-choice women around the country run for office—and WIN.

About

We know a thing or two about winning.

Since our founding in 1985, EMILYs List has trained thousands of women to run, and helped elect the first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and more than 1,500 women to state and local office.

That’s where you come in. We’re asking you to step up and run for office, especially at the state and local level. There are over 89,000 local offices across the country, and all of them impact our lives and our rights. We need more Democratic pro-choice women running at every level, because protecting our rights happens in places you might not expect — and when women lead, we all win!

There are a lot of myths out there about the type of person that can run for elected office and win in this country. We’re here to tell you that you don’t have to have to check every box to be a great candidate. You know when policies work for you and your family and when they don’t. Your lived experience is what your community needs in office and there is no better time than now to get started.

Since Run to Win’s founding in 2017, EMILYs List has dedicated resources across the country to train and recruit new candidates. Through in-person and online candidate trainings, our online Training Center, a Facebook community for women who want to run, and more, Run to Win will teach you everything you need to know to run — and WIN.

If you’re a Democratic pro-choice woman interested in running for office, we’re here to help. We hope you’ll join us.

“I am where I’m at because of Run to Win at EMILYs List. You provided training and support and that was foundational to my run for office.”

Rep. Christina Haswood (KS-HD10)
Think Local

Wondering what to run for? Think local.

Many of the senators and House members you know today got their start in state and local office. We can help you think through where to start your run, whether it’s a school board, city council, the mayor’s office, or your state legislature.
