WOMEN VOTE! To Launch Final Push in New Hampshire

WASHINGTON - The 2008 WOMEN VOTE! program, a nationwide voter mobilization and education project of EMILY's List, will be making a final push in a strong outreach campaign among New Hampshire voters. A team of approximately 50 EMILY's List staff and volunteers will travel to New Hampshire for a Get Out the Vote campaign for Jeanne Shaheen, Carol Shea-Porter and Barack Obama and John Lynch. The group will be knocking on doors in Merrimack, Dover, Bedford, Goffstown, Hooksett, and Derry in the final weekend before the election from November 1 through 4.

This GOTV efforts caps several months of efforts to reach out to New Hampshire voters using some of the latest technology. This summer, the WOMEN VOTE! program conducted a modeling project of the New Hampshire voter file, which allows EMILY's List to target individual voters based on consumer data, vote history, demographics, and census data. The results of the modeling allowed EMILY's List to send over 730,000 pieces of mail to persuadable voters and key segments of the electorate. A recently conducted test mailing showed that the earlier voter modeling and targeted mailing worked! The results proved that the test mailing produced a clear effect on the voter turnout and has driven down support for John Sununu.

EMILY's List WOMEN VOTE! has worked for more than a decade to inform and engage women voters in the electoral process on the premise that when women vote, women win. "Women are a critical sector of the electorate in a primary since they tend to make up a large majority of the turnout in an election." said Maren Hesla, EMILY's List WOMEN VOTE! director. "It is our hope that through our efforts these voters will be better informed on the issues that we know are important to them and that they will act on that information on election day."

Launched in 1995, the historic EMILY's List WOMEN VOTE! project combines polling and research, advanced information technology, sophisticated message testing, and precinct-by-precinct field work to mobilize millions of women voters across the country. EMILY's List designed WOMEN VOTE! to build a progressive political base that will elect more Democrats, especially women, by helping to increase turnout among women voters year after year.
