WOMEN VOTE! TO EDUCATE VOTERS IN NEW YORK’S 6th CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT

Mail, sophisticated internet targeting highlights Meng’s record fighting for tax fairness for working families

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, today announced a new WOMEN VOTE! project in New York’s sixth congressional district. As the nationwide voter mobilization and education project of EMILY's List, WOMEN VOTE! will reach out to key voters in Queens to educate them about Grace Meng’s record of fighting for tax fairness for working families and standing up for women’s rights.

The New York WOMEN VOTE! program includes five pieces of direct mail and a sophisticated online program segueing from persuasion messages to GOTV messages as the June 26th  primary approaches. Using cutting edge technology, WOMEN VOTE! is communicating with Democratic primary voting women aged 25-60.  New York WOMEN VOTE! can be found online at www.newyorkwomenvote.org.

"Voters in New York’s sixth district are pretty clear on what they want: a representative who will go to Washington, ignore the political theater, and work to get results,” said Stephanie Schriock, President of EMILY's List. “Grace Meng has spent her career in public service rolling up her sleeves and working with people to get things done. As a congresswoman, she’ll be more than just a voice for her constituents – she’ll deliver results. EMILY’s List is proud to support Grace Meng, a progressive woman who has fought for economic opportunities for women and families and will continue to do so in Congress.”

Instead of using traditional targeting methods to place ads that might reach women voters in the 6th district, WOMEN VOTE! is targeting specific individuals via their IP addresses and cookies that are commercially available and matched back to the voter file, ensuring that Democratic women who are registered to vote in NY-06, vote somewhat frequently in primaries and are between the ages of 25 and 60 receive clear information about the opportunity to send a hard-working progressive woman to Congress.

Launched in 1995, the historic EMILY's List WOMEN VOTE! project combines polling and research, advanced information technology, sophisticated message testing, and precinct-by-precinct field work to mobilize millions of women voters across the country. EMILY's List designed WOMEN VOTE! to build a progressive political base that will elect more Democrats, especially women, by helping to increase turnout among women voters year after year.

In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List raised more than $38.5 million to support its mission of recruiting and supporting women candidates, helping them build strong campaigns, and mobilizing women voters to turn out and vote. With a community of more than 1.5 million members across the country, EMILY's List is one of the largest political action committees in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has worked to elect 87 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 16 to the U.S. Senate, nine governors, and hundreds of women to the state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices. In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List had the largest number of members and donors in our 27 year history.
