EMILY's List Remains Top PAC In the Country
End-of-year report shows EMILY's List has greatest receipts, expenditures of any PAC in US
Washington, D.C. - EMILY's List, the nation's largest political action committee, continues to be the dominant financial resource for Democratic candidates.
In the historic 2006 election cycle, EMILY's List both raised and spent more money than any other PAC. With an average contribution of less than $100, EMILY's list donors gave $11 million directly to the campaigns of endorsed candidates, making EMILY's List one of the country's largest political contributors. Additionally, EMILY's List raised more than $34 million from over 100,000 members to support EMILY's List political programs. This fundraising success helped elect the greatest number of women to Congress in history and demonstrates the immense power of women moving into the 2008 election cycle.
In 2006, vigorous fundraising enabled EMILY's List to provide aggressive campaign services, fundraising, and field efforts for twice as many candidates as it did in the previous cycle. EMILY's Lists endorsed candidates won critical House and Senate races that help return control of Congress to Democrats and increased the number of women in Congress to record levels. Through the Political Opportunity Program at EMILY's List, 193 endorsed candidates were elected to state legislatures and 20 to statewide offices. These EMILY's List candidates helped bring seven state legislatures back into Democratic control.
Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has raised over $240 million to elect 67 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 13 to the U.S. Senate, and eight governors. In only eleven election cycles, EMILY's List has helped elect hundreds of pro-choice Democratic women to federal office, state legislatures, state constitutional offices and other key local offices.
