EMILY's List Endorses Congresswoman Betty Sutton for Re-Election in Ohio's 13th Congressional District

WASHINGTON, D.C. – EMILY's List, the nation's largest financial resource for women candidates, today announced its endorsement of Congresswoman Betty Sutton for re-election in 2010.

"In Congress, Betty Sutton has been a tireless and effective advocate for her district," said Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY’s List. "The GOP is making Betty Sutton a target and willing to say and do anything to win back this House seat. Incredibly, Ohio Republicans have even sent out a mailer that said 'Let’s take Betty Sutton out of the House and put her back in the kitchen.' We have to stop them and help reelect Betty Sutton this fall."

"Betty is helping bring real change to Washington, supporting ethics reform, economic development and consumer protection to help make life better for Ohio families. We need to show Betty that we have her back. We are proud to endorse Betty Sutton and look forward to her continued service in Congress."

Sutton has served Ohio's 13th district since 2006 where she sits on the House Energy and Commerce Committee and the Subcommittee on Health, Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection, and on the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.

Previously Sutton served eight years in the Ohio State House of Representatives where she championed a wide range of issues, including health care, education, pensions and retirement, and consumer protection to make government more accessible and effective for Northeast Ohioans. Congresswoman Sutton resides in Copley Township with her husband Doug and their dog Cody.

In the 2007-2008 cycle, EMILY's List raised more than $43 million to support its mission of recruiting and supporting women candidates, helping them build strong campaigns, and mobilizing women voters to turn out and vote. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has worked to elect 80 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 15 to the U.S. Senate, nine governors, and hundreds of women to the state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices.
