EMILY's List President Stephanie Schriock Statement on Fight to Re-elect President Obama
Appears at Women's Leadership Forum with First Lady Michelle Obama
"Today I have the honor of standing with First Lady Michelle Obama, DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, and so many of my own personal heroes -- on behalf of a cause I could not believe in more. Today's fight is at the very heart of our movement. We've come together to re-elect a President committed to protecting women's rights and the freedoms we all enjoy.
"Republicans are waging a war on women unlike anything in recent memory. And as the GOP candidates for President rush to out-do each other in who wants to take away more from women, it becomes even clearer that we have to do everything in our power to keep President Barack Obama in the White House. We need to make sure women know that the stakes could not be higher this election. We are fighting for our ability to keep ourselves and our children healthy. We're fighting for a sane economic policy that allows us the opportunities that make this country great. And we're fighting for the very fundamentals that give women equal access and treatment under the law.
"I'm proud to be a part of the team -- and I'm proud of the work done at EMILY's List to elect more Democratic women to help President Obama accomplish these goals. We don't just need to re-elect our President -- we need to send him reinforcements. It's pro-choice Democratic women who will fight for our priorities and have the President's back."
In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List raised more than $38.5 million to support its mission of recruiting and supporting women candidates, helping them build strong campaigns, and mobilizing women voters to turn out and vote. With a community of more than 900,000 members across the country, EMILY's List is one of the largest political action committees in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has worked to elect 86 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 16 to the U.S. Senate, nine governors, and hundreds of women to the state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices. In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List had the largest number of members and donors in our 25 year history.
