Statement from Stephanie Schriock on Abortion Restrictions in High Risk Pools
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY's List, issued the following statement on Abortion Restrictions in High-Risk Pools:
"EMILY's List is dismayed and disappointed by the unnecessary restrictions being placed on access to reproductive health care for women in the new "high risk pools."
Women in these "high-risk pools" face challenging circumstances and decisions that should be made by them and their doctors alone, with respect for their personal choices.
Denying these women access to basic services – paid for with their own money – is not in keeping with the respect for women’s lives and choices that EMILY’s List fights for, and is contrary to the aims of health care reform which EMILY’s List members and candidates fought so hard for."
EMILY's List is the nation's largest resource for women in politics. In the 2007-2008 cycle, EMILY's List raised more than $43 million to support its mission of recruiting and supporting women candidates, helping them build strong campaigns, and mobilizing women voters to turn out and vote. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has worked to elect 80 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 15 to the U.S. Senate, nine governors, and hundreds of women to the state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices.
