Statement of EMILY’s List on the passing of Congresswoman Geraldine Ferraro

Geraldine Ferraro blazed trails throughout her life, and never more so than when she stood in front of the nation to become the first female vice-presidential nominee of a major party.

Geraldine Ferraro fought for women and children and the rights of families to live stable and secure lives. She demonstrated dignity and toughness even at times of great challenge, including during her long fight with cancer.

As a District Attorney, Congresswoman, Vice Presidential nominee, Ambassador, and advocate, Gerry Ferraro was also a ceaseless supporter of women’s leadership.

We honor her today and always, and remember her words as she accepted her Party's nomination:

"By choosing a woman to run… you send a powerful signal to all Americans: There are no doors we cannot unlock. We will place no limits on achievement. If we can do this, we can do anything."
