WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Sunday, January 20th 2013, EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, will hold a brunch where the newly elected women of the 113th Congress and members of the EMILY’s List community will celebrate the inauguration of President Obama, and the extraordinary successes of pro-choice Democratic women leaders during the 2011-2012 election cycle.
UPDATED: Speakers include Leader Nancy Pelosi, Governor Maggie Hassan, Senator Elizabeth Warren (MA), Senator Claire McCaskill (MO), Senator Tammy Baldwin (WI), Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (HI-02), Congresswoman Grace Meng (NY-06), Simone Ward, Deputy Constituency Director & Women's Outreach Director at the DNC, 2010 Michigan Secretary of State candidate Jocelyn Benson, The Hon. Kathleen Sebelius, and Chuck Wolfe, President of the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund.
“EMILY’s List is thrilled to celebrate the second inauguration of President Obama and the incredible success of our pro-choice Democratic women candidates,” said Stephanie Schriock, President of EMILY’s List. “Women voters across the country elected a record number of pro-choice Democratic women and helped reelect the President because they wanted leaders who will fight for policies that benefit women and families. And with EMILY’s List’s help, 16 new Congresswomen, six Senate incumbents, and three new Senators are heading to Washington to do just that. EMILY’s List has so much to be proud of, and I can think of no better way to commemorate our success than to celebrate with the outstanding new leaders in attendance, and members of our growing community.”

During the 2011- 2012 election cycle, EMILY’s List helped elect a historic number of candidates – the only pro-choice Democratic woman governor in the country, 19 new women to the House, six Senate incumbents, and three new Senators – all the first women to represent their states in the Senate. And this cycle, women we’ve helped elect include the first Hindu and first female combat veterans to serve in the House, the first openly gay Senator, and the first Asian American woman to serve in the Senate. With a community that has quintupled since 2010 – now more than two million members strong – EMILY's List is one of the largest political action committees in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has worked to elect 100 pro-choice Democratic women to the House, 19 to the Senate, 10 governors, and over five hundred women to state and local office. In the 2011-2012 cycle, EMILY's List had the largest number of members and donors in our 28 year history, and raised a record-breaking $52 million dollars.
