EMILY's List Leads the PACs

EMILY's List Among Largest Contributors to Candidates Across the Country

Washington, DC – EMILY's List, the nation's largest grassroots political network and financial resource for women running for elective office, once again is the top political action committee in fundraising and contributions to candidates across the country. As of the end of the third fundraising quarter this cycle, the collective power of EMILY's List members across the country has invested more than $39.4 million in EMILY's List endorsed candidates and political programs.

Buoyed by primary victories in Arizona, Florida, Ohio, Hawaii and New York and energized by the numerous opportunities for pro-choice Democratic women to help take back Congress, EMILY's List members have for the 10th straight year made this 20-year old political action committee the largest PAC in the country. As of the end of the 3rd quarter, EMILY's List members have contributed more than $8.6 million to pro-choice Democratic women candidates this cycle and raised a total of more than $30.8 million to support EMILY's List political and voter outreach programs. EMILY's List derives its financial strength from the individual contributions of small donors. The average contribution to a candidate this cycle is only a little over $100.

"Our members have once again stepped up and their collective contributions have become the largest and most formidable financial resource for candidates in the country." said Ellen R. Malcolm, president of EMILY's List. "Our members are our strength – they are EMILY List – and they are the ones who have helped put Democratic women in the lead in some of the most competitive races in the country."

The political climate is ripe for Democrats to win the seats the Democratic party needs to take control of Congress. This state of affairs has been a boon for EMILY's List candidates, resulting in record numbers of qualified pro-choice Democratic women running for Congress in some of the most important races facing Democrats across the country.

EMILY's List endorses pro-choice Democratic women candidates and recommends them to their more than 100,000 members across the country, opening the doors for tens of thousands of donors to make contribution directly to those campaigns and making EMILY's List one of the largest contributors to candidates in the country.

Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has helped elect 61 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 11 to the U.S. Senate, and eight governors. In only ten election cycles, EMILY's List has helped elect hundreds of pro-choice Democratic women to federal office, state legislatures, state constitutional offices and other key local offices.
