EMILY’s List Announces Launch of Online Rolodex

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- EMILY's List, the nation's largest resource for women in politics, is pleased to announce a brand new social networking tool to help connect pro-choice Democratic women and men in a whole new way: the EMILY's List Online Rolodex.

"Twenty five years ago, the 'founding mothers' of EMILY’s List grabbed their Rolodexes and gathered in Ellen Malcolm's basement to send letters to their friends about a network they were forming to raise money and support for pro-choice Democratic women candidates," said Stephanie Schriock, President of EMILY's List. "Rolodexes may have gone the way of 8-tracks and floppy disks, but EMILY's List's commitment to connecting and electing pro-choice Democratic women is stronger than ever. With our new Online Rolodex, we are able to harness the power of social networks to connect women in ways our founding mothers could have only dreamed."

The Online Rolodex is a new tool on the EMILY's List website that enables supporters anywhere to connect, share information, and raise money for pro-choice Democratic women candidates. The Online Rolodex allows any user to upload contacts from their email account, send a personalized message about why they support EMILY's List, and keep track of which of their friends have taken action.

"EMILY's List has always been at the forefront of grassroots organizing and fundraising, whether it was through the postal service in 1985 or our new Online Rolodex today," Schriock continued. "In order to continue helping elect more women to office, we need to grow our network and make sure our supporters are able to connect with each other – and that starts with an engaged online community. With so much at stake this cycle, we are pleased to offer our community this new way of building a grassroots movement to elect progressive, pro-choice democratic women."

EMILY's List is the nation's largest resource for women candidates. In the 2007-2008 cycle, EMILY's List raised more than $43 million to support its mission of recruiting and supporting women candidates, helping them build strong campaigns, and mobilizing women voters to turn out and vote. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has worked to elect 80 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 15 to the U.S. Senate, nine governors, and hundreds of women to the state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices.
