EMILY's List Endorses Julie Lassa for Wisconsin's Seventh Congressional District

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- EMILY's List, the nation's largest resource for women candidates, today announced its endorsement of Julie Lassa for Wisconsin's seventh congressional district.

"EMILY's List is proud to endorse Julie Lassa for U.S. Congress," said Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY's List. "Julie will be a strong and independent voice to stand up for the hard working men and women of central and northern Wisconsin. Her record of fighting for jobs, small businesses, and economic development set her apart from her opponents and make her the strongest candidate to replace Congressman Dave Obey. Drawing on her deep roots in the district Julie is building a campaign organization second to none putting her on track for a great victory in November."

As a tireless advocate for small business, families and children, Julie understands firsthand the challenges facing her community. She is a strong supporter of quality education, an accountable and efficient use of tax dollars, and has worked hard to create jobs in Wisconsin, recently championing "Green to Gold," a law to make $100 million in loans available to businesses that adopt energy efficiency measures, and create or retain jobs.

Julie has served as the state senator for Wisconsin's 24th District since 2003. Previously, she served as a state assemblywoman from 1998-2003. A Portage County native, Julie grew up on a dairy farm and graduated from University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 1993. Julie lives with her husband and two children in Stevens Point and currently serves on the Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Board.

EMILY's List is the nation's largest resource for women in politics. In the 2007-2008 cycle, EMILY's List raised more than $43 million to support its mission of recruiting and supporting women candidates, helping them build strong campaigns, and mobilizing women voters to turn out and vote. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has worked to elect 80 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 15 to the U.S. Senate, nine governors, and hundreds of women to the state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices.
