EMILY's List Endorses Linda Ketner in South Carolina's First District
WASHINGTON D.C. -- EMILY's List, one of the nation's largest political action committees and the largest financial resource for women running for elected office, today announced its endorsement of Linda Ketner for South Carolina's first congressional district.
"Linda Ketner will work to cultivate a new type of leadership that focuses on people and principles," said Ellen R. Malcolm, president of EMILY's List. "In Congress, Linda will fight to bring common sense and fiscal responsibility back to our country. Her leadership and dedication to her voters make her the best person to represent South Carolina's first congressional district."
A pragmatic, successful businesswoman with an independent voice, Ketner has worked successfully across party lines for decades. Her experience as a professor of Sociology at the College of Charleston has instilled in her a deep understanding of the importance of education at all levels. Ketner formed South Carolina Citizens for Housing in 1991 after learning that thousands of South Carolinians had no plumbing and more than 800,000 lived in dangerous housing. She led this coalition of business leaders, elected officials, community groups and every-day citizens to bi-partisan passage of the Housing Trust Fund Bill, a solution that continues to bring affordable housing to tens-of-thousands of working families, veterans and elderly. Ketner has always been strong when it comes to finding practical solutions to South Carolina's problems -- a commitment she will bring with her to Washington.
With more than 100,000 members across the country, EMILY's List is one of the largest political action committees in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has raised over $240 million to elect 71 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 13 to the U.S. Senate, and eight governors. Over the course of 23 years, EMILY's List has helped elect hundreds of pro-choice Democratic women to federal office, state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices.
