EMILY's List WOMEN VOTE! Announce 2010 Priorities

WASHINGTON, D.C. - EMILY's List WOMEN VOTE! today announced priorities for independent activity during the 2010 cycle, including research, TV and radio, earned media, mail and phones, and field activities in key districts across the country.

"We have an unprecedented opportunity this cycle to elect progressive pro-choice Democratic women by ensuring that Democratic and independent women know what's at stake, draw clear distinctions between the radical right wing agendas of the Republican candidates and our EMILY's List candidates, and turn out in force during primaries and in November," said EMILY’s List President Stephanie Schriock.

"We will protect our incumbents, from champions of choice like Senators Boxer and Murray, to the women in the house who have worked so hard to on financial reform that holds corporations accountable and protects families. And we'll make history with new Senators like Robin Carnahan of Missouri and soon-to-be Congresswomen Terri Sewell and Julie Lassa – and elect a record number of new, strong women governors."

EMILY's List has long been recognized as an expert in understanding what motivates women voters and how to get them to the polls. "This election cycle, it is critical that we effectively introduce the candidates running against our progressive, pro-choice Democratic women for who they are –self-funding defenders of corporations, Sarah Palin acolytes, and radical activists who, if elected, would erode our rights and eliminate key recent legislative accomplishments, from health care to financial reform," said Schriock.

"Every district is different, and every one of our pro-choice Democratic woman has her own unique story to tell – from working to put children through college to running small businesses to fighting to pass legislation that provides jobs and opportunities. As we have in past cycles, we will spend what it takes to educate voters about the positive impact our pro-choice Democratic women have – and ensure they well understand the skewed, pro-big-business, anti-choice priorities of their Republican opponents."

Launched in 1995, the historic EMILY's List WOMEN VOTE! project combines polling and research, advanced information technology, sophisticated message testing, and precinct-by-precinct field work to mobilize millions of women voters across the country. EMILY's List designed WOMEN VOTE! to build a progressive political base that will elect more Democrats, especially women, by helping to increase turnout among women voters year after year.

EMILY's List is the nation's largest resource for women in politics. In the 2007-2008 cycle, EMILY's List raised more than $43 million to support its mission of recruiting and supporting women candidates, helping them build strong campaigns, and mobilizing women voters to turn out and vote. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY’s List has worked to elect 80 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 15 to the U.S. Senate, nine governors, and hundreds of women to the state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices.
