EMILYs List Puts Gloria Negrete McLeod "On the List"
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- EMILY's List, the nation's largest resource for women in politics, announced today that Gloria Negrete McLeod, a candidate for Congress in California's 35th congressional district, has been put "On the List."
"On the List" is a new way for EMILY's List members to engage with and support promising candidates early in the election cycle. The EMILY's List community has experienced dramatic growth in recent cycles and now stands over 900,000 members strong. These supporters are getting their information earlier, quicker and on the web. And they're ready to take action now. By putting Negrete McLeod "On the List," EMILY's List is ensuring she has early access to this enthusiastic support.
"With her long history in the community and leadership in the state legislature, Gloria is the clear choice to represent this new, open California district in Congress," said Stephanie Schriock, President of EMILY's List. "Gloria has fought hard to ensure affordable education and quality health care for all -- she’s a woman who clearly has the best interests of the people at heart and who isn't afraid to fight for them. EMILY's List is happy to put Negrete McLeod 'On the List'."
Gloria Negrete McLeod was first elected to the California state Senate in November 2006 after serving in the state Assembly since 2000. During her time in office, she has focused her efforts on creating jobs, improving water quality, and providing access to affordable higher education and health care. Prior to her time in office, she served as the President of the Board of Chaffey Community College and was on their board for five years. She has lived in the Chino area for 35 years with her husband. They have 10 children, 27 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List raised more than $38.5 million to support its mission of recruiting and supporting women candidates, helping them build strong campaigns, and mobilizing women voters to turn out and vote. With a community of more than 900,000 members across the country, EMILY's List is one of the largest political action committees in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has worked to elect 86 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 16 to the U.S. Senate, nine governors, and hundreds of women to the state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices. In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List had the largest number of members and donors in our 25 year history.
