EMILY's List President Statement on the Protect Life Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, EMILY's List President Stephanie Schriock released the following statement on the Republican House taking up the Protect Life Act.

"Today Eric Cantor and the Republican majority demonstrated their misguided priorities once again. They ran on one thing -- creating jobs. Now, they refuse to hold a vote on the comprehensive jobs package, they are not focused on our veterans and time-and-again they insist on waging a war on women by taking away basic health care services and affordable access to preventative care. Women by now know the true priorities for Speaker John Boehner and his radical Tea Party cronies. And we won’t forget it in November.

"Instead of focusing on getting Americans back to work, the Republicans in the House obsess over taking away the rights and freedoms of women across the country. Their goals couldn't be clearer. Neither can ours. Women and men are rejecting their extreme agenda and we will take these seats back in 2012."

In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List raised more than $38.5 million to support its mission of recruiting and supporting women candidates, helping them build strong campaigns, and mobilizing women voters to turn out and vote. With a community of more than 900,000 members across the country, EMILY's List is one of the largest political action committees in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has worked to elect 86 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 16 to the U.S. Senate, nine governors, and hundreds of women to the state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices. In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List had the largest number of members and donors in our 25 year history.
