EMILY’s List Denounces Dino Rossi’s “Maybe” Regarding Rape And Incest Exceptions

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY’s List, issued the following statement on Dino Rossi statements about a woman’s right to choose.

“Dino Rossi has always demonstrated a special unwillingness to come clean on the issue of reproductive rights. For years he simply refused to address it, because he knows his anti-choice views are out of touch with Washington voters. So women are used to Dino Rossi’s insulting silence when it comes to the issue of choice. But that doesn’t mean we were prepared for the utter callousness he showed yesterday with his admission that he ‘maybe’ supports an exception to the anti-choice restrictions he favors in the case of rape and incest.”

“The sad truth is, Dino Rossi just isn’t sure whether he’d protect the right of Washington women to make their own reproductive choice in the event they’re raped. This cavalier ‘maybe’ is just the latest insult in a long line of them. Dino Rossi has always been comfortable insulting Washington women with his refusal to take an important stand, and now he’s extended that disregard specifically to rape victims. Washington women deserve better than Dino Rossi, and much better than ‘maybe.’”
