EMILY's List Congratulates Jessica King
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- EMILY's List, the nation's largest resource for women in politics, tonight congratulates Jessica King on winning the recall race in Wisconsin's 18th State Senate district.
"Jessica King is an exceptional advocate for Wisconsin's women and families and the entire EMILY's List community is thrilled by her victory tonight," said Stephanie Schriock, President of EMILY's List. "Jessica achieved success through a combination of strength, tenacity, and a hard fought campaign. Her story is one that exemplifies the need for the programs that are under attack in the radical Walker agenda and she helped protect them today. She stood strong against her opponent, Gov. Walker devotee Randy Hopper, and now is headed to Madison to defend her constituents against the radical Republican war on women and families. EMILY's List was proud to support Jessica in her campaign and looks forward to her leadership in Wisconsin."
Because of the exponential growth in the EMILY's List community over the last year, we are able to fight against the Republican war on women and their families on multiple fronts in 2011.
EMILY's List created a one-stop shop for information about the candidates, the real story about the radical Republican agenda and how to get involved at www.emilyslist.org/wisconsin.
EMILY's List launched this campaign through Wisconsin WOMEN VOTE!, an independent expenditure arm of the organization. The campaign included direct voter contact and a paid TV media component, in partnership with the labor and progressive coalition We Are Wisconsin PAC.
EMILY's List mobilized the grassroots members of Team EMILY -- resulting in the largest number of activists in an EMILY's List call in night ever. Volunteers made tens of thousands of calls and spoke with thousands of Democratic women voters in Wisconsin. And for the first time, Team EMILY participated in on-the-ground GOTV in Wisconsin.
In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List raised more than $38.5 million to support its mission of recruiting and supporting women candidates, helping them build strong campaigns, and mobilizing women voters to turn out and vote. With a community of more than 900,000 members across the country, EMILY's List is one of the largest political action committees in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has worked to elect 86 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 16 to the U.S. Senate, nine governors, and hundreds of women to the state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices. In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List had the largest number of members and donors in our 25 year history.
