EMILY’s List Congratulates Grace Meng on Her Victory in New York

WASHINGTON, D.C – EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates Grace Meng on her hard-won victory in New York’s 6th Congressional District Democratic primary.

“Grace Meng’s victory is a sign that New Yorkers are ready to elect more strong, pro-choice Democratic women who will help us bring progressive values to the House in November,” said Stephanie Schriock, President of EMILY’s List. “With the help of a cutting edge project by WOMEN VOTE!  and early support from our growing EMILY’s List community – now 1.5 million members strong – Grace was able to show Democratic women voters that she is committed to fighting for the health, safety, and economic welfare of New York families.”

“The best way to stop Republican attacks on women’s rights and opportunities is to elect pro-choice Democratic women like Grace who will focus on getting things done,” Schriock continued. “EMILY’s List is thrilled to continue supporting her candidacy as she moves on to the general election.”

In New York’s sixth congressional district, WOMEN VOTE! ran a groundbreaking program to introduce young female Democratic primary voters to Grace Meng. WOMEN VOTE! used direct mail, along with a website and targeted online advertising to highlight Grace’s impressive record on tax fairness, pay equity, and women’s health. Two different advertisements that clicked through to www.NewYorkWomenVote.org ran on networks of more than 200 sites to serve ads only to voters on the sites where they shopped, banked, paid bills, read the news and watched videos. Once a user clicked through and viewed the site, they would see get out the vote ads directing them to support Meng on Election Day. By Election Day, the ads had been served to 25,000 targeted women voters more than a million times.

In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List raised more than $38.5 million to support its mission of recruiting and supporting women candidates, helping them build strong campaigns, and mobilizing women voters to turn out and vote. With a community of more than 1,500,000 members across the country, EMILY's List is one of the largest political action committees in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has worked to elect 87 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 16 to the U.S. Senate, nine governors, and hundreds of women to the state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices. In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List had the largest number of members and donors in our 27 year history.
