EMILY’s List Women Win Big In June 5 Primaries

Michelle Lujan Grisham, Julia Brownley, and Lois Capps Come Through Competitive Races

WASHINGTON, D.C – EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates its outstanding field of pro-choice Democratic women candidates on their successful primary campaigns.

“Yesterday’s election results make it clear that voters all over the country – from California to New Jersey – are supporting pro-choice, Democratic women as a way to build a more progressive America” said Stephanie Schriock, President of EMILY’s List.  “I have no doubt that the strength of women candidates will continue to build, and will help us take Washington back for middle class families in November.”

“The continually growing EMILY’s List community – now 1.5 million members strong – is committed to standing with these women and fighting against Republican efforts to erode women’s rights and opportunities,” Schriock continued. “Voters know that the best way to stop Republican attacks and preserve access to healthcare, quality education, and equal pay, is to vote for Democratic women in November.”

EMILY’s List is proud to continue supporting these inspiring pro-choice Democratic women who are advancing to the general election in November:

  • Shelley Adler (NJ-03)
  • Julia Brownley (CA-26)
  • Lois Capps (CA-24)
  • Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01)
  • Gloria Negrete McLeod (CA-35)
  • Christie Vilsack (IA-04)

The EMILY’s List community is especially excited about Michelle Lujan Grisham’s (NM-01) victory in a hotly contested election. Her strong progressive message of fighting for the middle class and supporting women’s rights clearly resonated with voters and she’s well positioned to take on Republican Janice Arnold-Jones in November.

EMILY’s List is also excited about success in California, where Julia Brownley, Lois Capps, and Gloria Negrete McLeod advanced in highly contested multi-candidate races.

In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List raised more than $38.5 million to support its mission of recruiting and supporting women candidates, helping them build strong campaigns, and mobilizing women voters to turn out and vote. With a community of more than 1,500,000 members across the country, EMILY's List is one of the largest political action committees in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has worked to elect 87 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 16 to the U.S. Senate, nine governors, and hundreds of women to the state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices. In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List had the largest number of members and donors in our 27 year history.
