EMILY’s List President Stephanie Schriock On Republican Vote to Ban Abortion for D.C. Women
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Stephanie Schriock, President of EMILY’s List, released a statement on a bill being considered in the House of Representatives, which would ban abortion in D.C. after 20 weeks of pregnancy without exceptions for rape, incest, or fetal anomaly.
“The bill being discussed should send a chill down the spine of women throughout this country – and it should drive them to the polls in November, too,” said Stephanie Schriock, President of EMILY’s List. “Republicans made clear they intend to continue with their war on women’s health and liberty by taking aim at Roe v. Wade and putting politics where it does not belong – in women’s private and personal medical decisions – with this bill, but women are not helpless. They’ve got a pro-choice president and a historic number of prochoice Democratic women on the ballot this fall, and we’re going to ensure they turn out in record numbers to hold these far-right Republicans accountable and end this War on Women permanently.”
In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List raised more than $38.5 million to support its mission of recruiting and supporting women candidates, helping them build strong campaigns, and mobilizing women voters to turn out and vote. With a community of more than 1,500,000 members across the country, EMILY's List is one of the largest political action committees in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has worked to elect 87 pro-choice, Democratic women to the U.S. House, 16 to the U.S. Senate, nine governors, and hundreds of women to the state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices. In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List had the largest number of members and donors in our 27 year history.
