EMILY’s List President Stephanie Schriock Congratulates Nancy Pelosi On Her Continued Leadership

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Leader Nancy Pelosi announced her decision to stay on as leader of the Democrats in the House.

“Nancy Pelosi is a trailblazing leader – a woman who’s crashed through glass ceilings herself, and always reached back to help other women do the same,” said Stephanie Schriock, President of EMILY’s List. “Under her leadership, women and families saw major progress, from health care reform keeping them healthier to financial regulatory reform to help level the playing field for working people. Women voters spoke clearly on Election Day – they want to move forward, toward policies that make life better for women and families. We’re pleased that Nancy Pelosi will stay on as leader of the Democrats in the House, and we hope she’ll be joined by many other women leaders who will continue our forward progress.”

During the 2011- 2012 election cycle, EMILY’s List endorsed an impressive number of candidates, worked to elect three pro-choice Democratic women to the House in special elections, and helped 11 House candidates, one Senate candidate, and one gubernatorial candidate make it through competitive primaries. With a community that has more than quadrupled since 2010 – now more than 2,000,000 members strong – EMILY's List is one of the largest political action committees in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has worked to elect 100 pro-choice Democratic women to the House, 19 to the Senate, 10 governors, and over five hundred of women to state and local office. In the 2011-2012 cycle, EMILY's List had the largest number of members and donors in our 27 year history, and raised an impressive $51.2 million dollars.
