EMILY’s List Endorses Suzan DelBene for Congress

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILY’s List, the leading organization for women in politics, announced its endorsement of Suzan DelBene, candidate for Congress in Washington’s first district.

“Suzan is an experienced business leader and savvy entrepreneur who has used her sharp skills to help struggling families get back on their feet,” said Stephanie Schriock, President of EMILY’s List. “She’s a progressive champion who is committed to promoting clean energy, expanding access to healthcare and economic opportunity, and holding Wall Street accountable. Washington families need leaders like Suzan to fend off Tea Party extremists, and EMILY’s List is proud to support her candidacy.”

Suzan DelBene has been a successful businesswoman and entrepreneur for twenty years. After working her way through Reed College to earn her BA and then receiving an MBA from the University of Washington, Suzan spent 12 years at Microsoft where she became a Vice President. Suzan also helped found Drugstore.com and served as CEO and president of Nimble Technology, a startup company.

Suzan’s history of public service is focused on creating economic opportunities for struggling families who are trying to get back on their feet. She was an advisor to Global Partnerships, a microfinance organization that provides loans for people living in poverty, and worked with the YWCA to help provide job training and transitional housing for families in need. Suzan has also served as the Director of the Washington State Department of Revenue, where she proposed reforms to cut red tape for small businesses and helped close the state’s budget gap while easing the burden on small businesses and saving them money. Suzan lives in the first district with her husband Kurt and their two children.

In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List raised more than $38.5 million to support its mission of recruiting and supporting women candidates, helping them build strong campaigns, and mobilizing women voters to turn out and vote. With a community of more than 1,500,000 members across the country, EMILY's List is one of the largest political action committees in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has worked to elect 87 pro-choice, Democratic women to the U.S. House, 16 to the U.S. Senate, nine governors, and hundreds of women to the state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices. In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List had the largest number of members and donors in our 27 year history.
