EMILY’s List Endorses Gloria Romero Roses for Congress Moves From “On the List” to a Full Endorsement
WASHINGTON, D.C. – EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, today announced that it is moving Gloria Romero Roses, a candidate for Congress in Florida’s 26th district, from “On the List” to a full recommendation.
“Gloria is truly an inspiring candidate. An immigrant from a low-income family and product of public education, Gloria is now a prominent business and community leader, and has worked tirelessly to improve Miami-Dade public schools,” said Stephanie Schriock, President of EMILY’s List. “She is exactly the kind of progressive champion we need in Washington right now; a leader who will protect vital programs like Medicare from being gutted by Tea Party extremists.”
Gloria Romero Roses was born in Bogotá, Colombia and moved to the United States when she was seven. She graduated from South Broward High School, and worked her way through college at Florida International University, followed by the University of Miami, where she received her MBA. Gloria firmly believes in improving our nation’s public schools, and has worked with parents, educators, and neighbors to combat overcrowding in the Miami-Dade school district. Gloria currently serves as managing partner of Nexus Homes, LLC, which helps provide more assisted living choices for families caring for elderly relatives. Romero Roses is also the former Statewide Vice Chair & Region Chair of Ruth’s List Florida, an organization that works to elect pro-choice, Democratic women to state, county, and local office in Florida.
In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List raised more than $38.5 million to support its mission of recruiting and supporting women candidates, helping them build strong campaigns, and mobilizing women voters to turn out and vote. With a community of more than 1,500,000 members across the country, EMILY's List is one of the largest political action committees in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has worked to elect 87 pro-choice, Democratic women to the U.S. House, 16 to the U.S. Senate, nine governors, and hundreds of women to the state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices. In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List had the largest number of members and donors in our 27 year history.
