EMILY’s List Announces New Website – And 1.5 Million Members! Major Milestone Reached By Adding Half a Million Members In Just Five Months

WASHINGTON, D.C – Today, EMILY's List, the nation's largest resource for women in politics, announced the launch of a new website and the exciting news that our community now stands at 1.5 million members nationwide.

The new website can be viewed at www.emilyslist.org.

The newer, more mobile-friendly EMILY’s List website is a way to engage with this growing community, and for supporters to learn more about the outstanding candidates who will take back Washington for women and families. EMILY’s List has endorsed an incredible 11 women for the Senate and is supporting 33 women for the House, as well as Maggie Hassan, who if elected will be the only pro-choice Democratic woman governor in the country.

“Americans are fed up with the Republican War on Women, and are searching for new leadership in Washington that prioritizes the needs of middle class families,” said Stephanie Schriock, President of EMILY’s List. “The constant drum beat of GOP attempts to roll back the clock for women have only energized folks across the country. EMILY’s List has never seen growth like this, and we’re taking this momentum straight through to Election Day.

“Women want representatives who will stand up to the right and build a more progressive America. EMILY’s List is supporting a remarkable number of candidates who fit that bill perfectly and our 1.5 million members can’t wait to see them change the face of power in Washington.”

During John Boehner and his Tea-Party allies’ first 12 months in power, EMILY's List more than doubled its membership from under 400,000 to over one million. Now, just five short months later, EMILY’s List has welcomed an additional 500,000 members. This unprecedented growth is due in no small part to two major factors: EMILY’s List is running strong women candidates who are inspiring women and men nationwide; and Republicans’ continued attacks – from their efforts to restrict access to healthcare and equal pay, to their attempt to erode protections granted under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) – are galvanizing women across the country.

In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List raised more than $38.5 million to support its mission of recruiting and supporting women candidates, helping them build strong campaigns, and mobilizing women voters to turn out and vote. With a community of more than 1,500,000 members across the country, EMILY's List is one of the largest political action committees in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has worked to elect 87 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 16 to the U.S. Senate, nine governors, and hundreds of women to the state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices. In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List had the largest number of members and donors in our 27 year history.
