WASHINGTON – Following is a statement by Ellen R. Malcolm, president of EMILY's List, on Vi Simpson's withdrawal from the Indiana governor's race.

"On behalf of all the staff and members of EMILY's List, I would like to applaud Vi Simpson. Her decision to exit the race for governor and endorse the Kernan/Davis ticket is the act of a true leader whose first concern is the welfare of the people of Indiana."

"Her campaign for governor was important for Democrats and a model for pro-choice Democratic women across the country and we look forward to the future and supporting Vi Simpson in her service to the people of Indiana."
