EMILY's List Announces Support for Eight Women for U.S. Congress and Statewide Executive Offices
WASHINGTON, DC – EMILY's List, the nation's largest grassroots political network and financial resource for women running for elective office, today announced its endorsement of five pro-choice Democratic women who will fight to take back Congress in 2006.
EMILY's List is pleased to introduce the newest edition to its growing roster of progressive female candidates who are poised and ready to push the radical right out of Congress. In a climate of increasing public discontent, the opportunity to add more women to Congress and change the face of power in Washington has presented itself and EMILY's List members plan to take that opportunity by supporting the following five women in their bids for Congress:
- Francine Busby for California's 50th District
- Peggy Lamm for Colorado's 7th District
- Paula Hollinger for Maryland's 3rd District
- Patricia Madrid for New Mexico's 1st District
- Nancy Nusbaum for Wisconsin's 8th District
In addition to these congressional candidates, EMILY's List today announced its support for three more candidates through its Political Opportunity Program. Through the Political Opportunity Program, EMILY's List is developing the next generation of pro-choice Democratic women political leaders by investing in women candidates at the state and local levels. EMILY's List is also pleased to support these rising stars and will continue to work to move women up the political pipeline:
- Alex Sink for Florida Chief Financial Officer
- Kate Marshall for Nevada State Treasurer
- Elizabeth Roberts for Rhode Island Lieutenant Governor
EMILY's List is the largest political action committee in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has helped elect 61 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 11 to the U.S. Senate, and eight governors. In only ten election cycles, EMILY's List has helped elect hundreds of pro-choice Democratic women to federal office, state legislatures, state constitutional offices and other key local offices.
