WOMEN VOTE! to Mobilize Voters for CA Special Election

Program Will Focus on Low Turnout Women and Democratic Voters

WASHINGTON- The 2006 WOMEN VOTE! program, a nationwide voter mobilization and education project of EMILY's List, will be canvassing areas of California's 50th congressional district in the final days leading up to the June 6th special election.

Staff of the California WOMEN VOTE! program, combined with a group of volunteers, hope to reach 20,000 voters in the last four days before the election. Representatives will be going door-to-door in several neighborhoods reaching out to Independent women and Democratic voters who may have voted in statewide elections but tend to drop off in the mid-terms and primaries to encourage them to turn-out in this critical election on June 6th.

California WOMEN VOTE! will bring their get out the vote program to communities in Encinitas, Clairemont, Mira Mesa, Del Mar, Del Mar Heights, University City, Solana Beach and Pacific Beach. "The residents of California's 50th district face important decisions in the coming primary and we want to encourage them to step up and make their voice heard," said Karen M. White, EMILY's List national political director.

Launched in 1995, the historic EMILY's List WOMEN VOTE! project combines polling and research, advanced information technology, sophisticated message testing, and precinct-by-precinct field work to mobilize millions of women voters across the country. EMILY's List designed WOMEN VOTE! to build a progressive political base that will elect more Democrats, especially women, by helping to increase turnout among women voters year after year.
