EMILY's List Endorses Paula Brooks in Ohio's Twelfth Congressional District
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- EMILY's List, the nation's largest financial resource for women candidates, today announced its endorsement of Paula Brooks in Ohio's 12th congressional district.
"EMILY's List is excited to announce our support for Paula Brooks in her campaign for Ohio's 12th congressional district. Paula is a common sense, hardworking leader with a commitment to fiscal responsibility," said Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY's List. "As President of the Franklin County Commission, Paula worked tirelessly for her constituents and she will do the same in the House. Paula knows how tough times are for the people of Ohio and that's why she will work to create opportunities for economic growth and sustainable green jobs. EMILY's List is proud to endorse Paula Brooks for U.S. Congress."
Paula Brooks is President of the County Commissioners' Association of Ohio and served twice as the President of the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, to which she was elected in 2005. She was previously elected to the Upper Arlington City Council in 1996. Brooks has served on the Board of Developmental Disabilities as a trustee, and as President of the Ohio State Bar Foundation and Action for Battered Women in Ohio. She was also appointed to the Defense Advisory on Women in the Services and served as the Director of the Women's Law project for the Ohio Attorney General.
"I am thrilled to receive the endorsement of EMILY's List and all of its members across the country," said Brooks. "I know that with their support we can move this seat to the Democratic column in November."
A fierce advocate for women's rights, Brooks worked with the Franklin County Sherriff to create the Child Sexual Predator Program, which targets criminals who prey on children through the internet. Brooks is a devoted Ohioan -- working her way through college and law school in the state, raising her two children, and staying active in her church -- whose leadership in the region is legendary.
EMILY's List is the nation's largest resource for women candidates. In the 2007-2008 cycle, EMILY's List raised more than $43 million to support its mission of recruiting and supporting women candidates, helping them build strong campaigns, and mobilizing women voters to turn out and vote. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has worked to elect 80 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 15 to the U.S. Senate, nine governors, and hundreds of women to the state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices.
