EMILY’s List Statement on Speaker Boehner’s visit to Campaign for Jane Corwin in New York-26
Washington D.C. -- Today, EMILY's List President Stephanie Schriock released this statement on Speaker Boehner's visit to campaign on behalf of Republican Jane Corwin in New York's 26th congressional district.
"No wonder Speaker John Boehner is taking a detour from Wall Street to visit Depew, New York. Republicans in Washington have every reason to be scared their hand-picked candidate will lose the special election in NY-26. While Democrat Kathy Hochul has been getting her message of job creation and fiscal responsibility out to New York families, Republican Jane Corwin has embraced a budget that would end Medicare as we know it.
"Despite already voting for and passing the Ryan budget, Republicans are now trying to back away from this extremist proposal. But Corwin is so out of touch with the district, she continues to support it. Corwin's agenda would have devastating consequences for New York families."
In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List raised more than $38.5 million to support its mission of recruiting and supporting women candidates, helping them build strong campaigns, and mobilizing women voters to turn out and vote. With a community of more than 900,000 members across the country, EMILY's List is one of the largest political action committees in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has worked to elect 84 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 16 to the U.S. Senate, nine governors, and hundreds of women to the state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices. In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List had the largest number of members and donors in our 25 year history.
