EMILY’s List Announces Appointment of Amy Dacey as Executive Director

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- EMILY’s List President Stephanie Schriock today announced the appointment of Amy K. Dacey as Executive Director of EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics.

“Amy Dacey’s experience and expertise will serve as a huge asset for EMILY’s List as we focus on winning races this cycle and expanding our movement in the future,” said Schriock. “Amy and I have worked together in the past, and I know she’s passionate, hard-working, and completely committed to electing pro-choice Democratic women who fight for the freedom and opportunity all Americans deserve. I am delighted to welcome Amy back to EMILY’s List, a place she knows well and has helped shape over the years.” As the EMILY’s List State Legislative Program Director in 2001, Dacey created a training program to encourage, recruit and train women to run for state legislative office.

Dacey’s appointment completes the senior leadership team at EMILY’s List and ensures that EMILY’s List is prepared and ready for this challenging cycle -- helping effective and exciting new candidates like Wisconsin’s Julie Lassa and Alabama’s Terri Sewell to Congress; support long-time champions of women and families like Senators Barbara Boxer and Patty Murray, and work to bring dynamic women to Governors’ office throughout the country.

Dacey joins EMILY’s List from the Service Employees International Union, where she served as The Director of Government Relations. Dacey created the department’s strategic plan and managed the Legislative, Policy, Intergovernmental and Executive Branch Outreach Departments of the union.

Amy served as Senator John Kerry’s National Political Director at Keeping America’s Promise PAC during the 05-06 cycle, as Senator Kerry’s Traveling Political Director on his 2004 presidential campaign, and as a Regional Political Coordinator for the primary campaign, responsible for political structures in 30 states. In the 2002 election cycle, Dacey was the Deputy Political Director for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), under the chairmanship of Senator Patty Murray (D-Wash).

Dacey currently serves on the Boards of the American Council of Young Political Leaders and the Unity Fund. Dacey received her Masters in Political Science from the American University in Washington, D.C. and her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and History from the State University of New York at Binghamton.

EMILY’s List is the nation’s largest resource for women in politics. In the 2007-2008 cycle, EMILY’s List raised more than $43 million to support its mission of recruiting and supporting women candidates, helping them build strong campaigns, and mobilizing women voters to turn out and vote. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY’s List has worked to elect 80 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 15 to the U.S. Senate, nine governors, and hundreds of women to the state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices.
