WOMEN VOTE! to Mobilize Voters for Virginia Primary
WASHINGTON- The 2008 WOMEN VOTE! program, a nationwide voter mobilization and education project of EMILY's List, will be reaching out to primary voters through the mail in the finals days leading up to the June 10th primary in Virginia's 11th congressional district.
The WOMEN VOTE! Program hopes to reach more than 35,000 households throughout the district in these last days before the election. In particular, the program will target frequent primary voters and seek to educate them about Gerry Connelly's history of putting developers ahead of residents, and about the hundreds of thousands of dollars developers have poured into his campaigns. The series of six mailings, the first of which will reach voters next week, will also share important facts on Connelly's ties to war profiteers and Leslie Byrne's consistent record of opposition to the Iraq war.
EMILY's List WOMEN VOTE! has worked for more than a decade to inform and engage women voters in the electoral process on the premise that when women vote, women win. "Women are a critical sector of the electorate in a primary since they tend to make up a large majority of the turnout in an election." said Maren Hesla, EMILY's List WOMEN VOTE! director. "It is our hope that through our efforts these voters will be better informed on an issue that we know is important to them and that they will act on that information on election day."
Launched in 1995, the historic EMILY's List WOMEN VOTE! project combines polling and research, advanced information technology, sophisticated message testing, and precinct-by-precinct field work to mobilize millions of women voters across the country. EMILY's List designed WOMEN VOTE! to build a progressive political base that will elect more Democrats, especially women, by helping to increase turnout among women voters year after year.
