EMILY’s List Puts Kim Gillan “On the List”

WASHINGTON – Today, EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, announced that Kim Gillan, candidate for Congress to represent Montana at large, has been put “On the List.”

The EMILY’s List community now stands more than 1.7 million members strong. “On the List” is a new way to make sure EMILY’s List members can engage with and support promising candidates all across the country. By putting Gillan “On the List,” EMILY’s List is ensuring that she has access to this powerful network of supporters.

“Kim is an experienced public servant with a sterling work ethic who has fought tirelessly to expand opportunities for women and families,” said Stephanie Schriock, President of EMILY’s List. “As a Montana native, I know that the people in my home state want an independent-minded problem solver like Kim – an outstanding leader who is committed to taking on tough challenges and moving past partisan gridlock.”

Kim Gillan received her undergraduate degree at the University of California, Los Angeles and her master’s degree at Cornell University, by taking on various jobs, including working in a grocery store as a Teamster. Kim has served in the Montana state legislature for 15 years, has won re-election six consecutive times with overwhelming support, and is currently the Minority Whip. During her tenure, she has improved access to treatment for autism and diabetes, and led efforts to create a job training assistance program for small businesses, improve highway safety, and close corporate tax loopholes. As the current Workforce Development Coordinator at the Montana State University-Billings, Kim has helped students compete for jobs in today’s tough economic climate. She is the mother of two adult children, Henry and Claire.

In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List raised more than $38.5 million to support its mission of recruiting and supporting women candidates, helping them build strong campaigns, and mobilizing women voters to turn out and vote. With a community of more than 1,700,000 members across the country, EMILY's List is one of the largest political action committees in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has worked to elect 87 pro-choice, Democratic women to the U.S. House, 16 to the U.S. Senate, nine governors, and hundreds of women to the state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices. In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List had the largest number of members and donors in our 27 year history.
