Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Senators Barbara Mikulski and Kirsten Gillibrand To Celebrate EMILY’s List 25 Years of Changing the Face of Power

WASHINGTON, D.C. – EMILY's List today announced that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Senator Barbara Mikulski and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand will help EMILY's List celebrate 25 years of changing the face of power by speaking at the anniversary luncheon on Thursday, April 29th in Washington, DC. These leaders will join new EMILY's List President Stephanie Schriock and Chair of the Board of Directors, Ellen Malcolm as featured speakers at the celebratory event.

Retrospective videos on the history of EMILY's List as well as a tribute to Ellen Malcolm will also be a part of the anniversary luncheon.

"Everything that EMILY's List stands for is embodied in these amazing leaders. Speaker Pelosi has been an inspiration to women and young girls across the country. Her leadership on health care made passage of the landmark reform possible," said Schriock. "Senator Mikulski, the first Democratic woman elected to the Senate in her own right, lead the effort to include women in federally funded medical research. Senator Gillibrand represents all working mothers raising a young family while making a difference for their country. We could not be more excited to have these great leaders and so many Democratic Members of Congress join in honoring Founder and Chair Ellen Malcolm's vision which helped to change the face of power by connecting and electing women through EMILY's List for 25 years and counting."

In 1985 when Malcolm founded EMILY's List, not one Democratic woman had been elected to the U.S. Senate in her own right and there were only 12 Democratic women in the Congress. Twenty-five years later, EMILY's List has helped to elect 80 pro-choice Democratic women members of Congress, 15 senators, 9 governors, and hundreds of women to state and local office. The difference EMILY's List has made can be seen across the country.
