Statement from EMILY’s List President Stephanie Schriock on the Confirmation of Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY's List, issued the following statement on the confirmation of Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court.

"EMILY's List congratulates Elena Kagan on her confirmation as the 112th justice and fourth woman ever to serve on the Supreme Court. With her confirmation, a record three women will now sit on the nation's highest court, bringing us that much closer to a day when the court reflects true gender parity. We thank Solicitor General Kagan -- a trailblazer for women, from her tenure as the first female dean of Harvard Law School to her service as the first female solicitor general -- for her determination and commitment to public service."

In the 2007-2008 cycle, EMILY's List raised more than $43 million to support its mission of recruiting and supporting women candidates, helping them build strong campaigns, and mobilizing women voters to turn out and vote. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has worked to elect 80 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 15 to the U.S. Senate, nine governors, and hundreds of women to the state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices.
