EMILY's List Announces Endorsement of Deb Markowitz for Governor of Vermont

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- EMILY's List, the nation's largest financial resource for women candidates, today announced its endorsement of Deb Markowitz for Governor of Vermont.

"We are thrilled to endorse Deb Markowitz for Governor of Vermont," said Ellen R. Malcolm, president of EMILY's List. "Deb has been an all-star Secretary of State working to make government more transparent, promoting citizenship and streamlining paperwork for new businesses. She has been a champion for small businesses, making it easier to create and sustain jobs. As Governor, she’ll bring her energy and passion to fight for all the things that make Vermont such a special place – its environment, vibrant communities, and its hard working people. EMILY's List is proud to support Deb Markowitz in her bid to become Governor of Vermont."

Deb Markowitz entered politics in 1998, defeating a two-term incumbent to become the first female elected Secretary of State in Vermont. She has served on the advisory board of the Federal Election Assistance Commission and is past president of the National Association of Secretaries of State. Deb was recently honored as a Rodel Fellow by the Aspen Institute. As a mother of three, Markowitz takes a family-centered approach to obstacles facing Vermont. Her goal is simple: to keep Vermont a safe, strong community for generations to come.

EMILY's List is the nation's largest financial resource for women candidates. In the 2007-2008 cycle, EMILY's List raised more than $43 million to support its mission of recruiting and supporting women candidates, helping them build strong campaigns, and mobilizing women voters to turn out and vote. With more than 100,000 members across the country, EMILY's List is one of the largest political action committees in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has worked to elect 80 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 15 to the U.S. Senate, nine governors, and hundreds of women to the state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices.
