EMILY's List WOMEN VOTE! Begins Next Stage of Outreach to Women Voters in Texas

WASHINGTON — The 2008 WOMEN VOTE! program, a nationwide voter mobilization and education project of EMILY’s List, will continue its efforts to reach out to women voters and mobilize their support for Senator Hillary Clinton in the Democratic presidential primary. Similar to the successful program run in New Hampshire, Connecticut, and New Jersey, EMILY's List will use a targeted radio buy to blanket the state of Texas and reach women voters during the final days leading up to the March 4th Texas primary.

The Texas WOMEN VOTE! program hopes to reach a diverse group of women across the state of Texas focusing on five different media markets: Abilene-Sweetwater, Amarillo, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston-Galveston, and Lubbock. The radio spots will include important information on Senator Hillary Clinton and her strength and experience as a leader. The program will utilize a critical peer-to-peer style of communication featuring the voices of real Texas women and messages inspired by their real-life perspective on the issues, a successful technique used in a wide variety of EMILY's List WOMEN VOTE! programs. In particular, the radio advertisements will address a dominant issue for Texas women - the economic pressures faced by their families everyday. The Texas WOMEN VOTE! program will run simultaneously with the newly launched Ohio WOMEN VOTE! program, echoing Sen. Clinton's message across the states.

EMILY's List WOMEN VOTE! has worked for more than a decade to inform and engage women voters in the electoral process on the premise that when women vote, women win. “Women are a critical sector of the electorate in a primary since they tend to make up a large majority of the turnout in an election.” said Maren Hesla, EMILY’s List WOMEN VOTE! director. “It is our hope that through our efforts these women will see what we know to be true – that Senator Hillary Clinton is the candidate with the strength and experience to bring real change to our country.”

Launched in 1995, the historic EMILY’s List WOMEN VOTE! program combines polling and research, advanced information technology, sophisticated message testing, and precinct-by-precinct field work to mobilize millions of women voters across the country. EMILY's List designed WOMEN VOTE! to build a progressive political base that will elect more Democrats, especially women, by helping to increase turnout among women voters year after year.
