EMILY's List WOMEN VOTE! Program Helps Bring Women’s Participation to Historic Levels
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Ellen R. Malcolm, President of EMILY’s List made the following statement on Hillary Clinton’s win in New Hampshire.
“Last night the women of New Hampshire helped Hillary Clinton become the first woman in American history to win a presidential primary. In New Hampshire, Hillary Clinton found her voice and women voters joined her in a loud chorus. They want change and a president who is ready to lead. From the innovative work of the EMILY's List WOMEN VOTE! program, to the support of our members from across the country, EMILY's List is so proud to be a part of this historic campaign. Hillary Clinton has the experience and tenacious passion to get this country back on track. We are proud to stand with her as we look ahead to her next step on the path to victory.”
Background:
The EMILY's List WOMEN VOTE! program reach out to more than 50,000 Democratic women voters throughout the state in the weeks leading up to the first in the nation primary. In particular, the program targeted women who are reliable voters, but who tend to wait to make up their minds, with a persuasion and GOTV effort including mailings and phone calls.
According to primary exit polling, women voters made up more than 57% of the electorate in NH, up by several points from 2004. Hillary Clinton won women by 12 points, 46% to 34%.
