EMILY's List Announces Endorsement of Ann Kirkpatrick in Arizona's 1st Congressional District

WASHINGTON, D.C. - EMILY's List, the nation's largest political action committee and financial resource for women running for elective office, today announced its endorsement of Ann Kirkpatrick in her bid for Arizona's first congressional district.

"Ann Kirkpatrick will be a tremendous asset for Arizona in the United States Congress," said Ellen Malcolm, president and founder of EMILY's List. "Ann is an experienced legislator and strong campaigner who understands the needs of this district. In Congress, she will continue to protect tax-payers' dollars, fight crime, promote education, and protect Arizona's natural resources. We look forward to bringing the full strength of our membership to bear in electing Ann Kirkpatrick to Congress."

Ann Kirkpatrick represented the second legislative district in Arizona's House of Representatives, only recently resigning to pursue this run for Congress. She has earned a reputation as an effective advocate for northern Arizona's families, schools, and Native American community. Kirkpatrick has demonstrated her dedication to her constituents and contributed to a better Arizona by supporting realistic policies with real results. She has consistently fought for more ethical behavior in the Arizona House and will bring those same standards to the United States House.

Kirkpatrick was born and raised in McNary, a rural town on the White Mountain Apache reservation, and received both her bachelor's and law degrees from the University of Arizona. She started her long career in public service when she became Coconino County's first female deputy county attorney in 1980. Kirkpatrick then went on to serve as city attorney for Sedona, probate commissioner pro tem, and as a member of the Flagstaff water commission. She has been an active member of the Flagstaff community, where she was the former president of United Way of Northern Arizona and on the board of directors of Big Sisters.

"I'm pleased to have earned the support of the thousands of EMILY's List members across the country," said Ann Kirkpatrick. "As a representative in the Arizona House, I have learned the positive differences, perspectives and experiences that Democratic women bring to the legislative process. From education to fiscal responsibility, I'm looking forward to applying my experiences and my knowledge to representing Arizona in Congress."

With more than 100,000 members across the country, EMILY's List is the largest political action committee in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has raised over $240 million to elect 68 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 13 to the U.S. Senate, and eight governors. Over the course of 22 years, EMILY's List has helped elect hundreds of pro-choice Democratic women to federal office, state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices.
