EMILY's List WOMEN VOTE! Begins Next Stage of Outreach to Women Voters in Connecticut and New Jersey

WASHINGTON — The 2008 WOMEN VOTE! program, a nationwide voter mobilization and education project of EMILY’s List, will continue its efforts to reach out to women voters and mobilize their support for Senator Hillary Clinton in the Democratic presidential priimary. Similar to the successful program run in New Hampshire, EMILY's List will reach out to more than 87,000 women through the mail and on the phone in Connecticut and New Jersey during the final days leading up to the February 5th Super Primary.

The WOMEN VOTE! program hopes to reach more than 37,000 women across the state of Connecticut and more than 48,000 women in southern New Jersey. In particular, the program will target women who are reliable voters and who also tend to wait to make up their minds on elections in these final days. The series of mailings, the first of which will reach women voters this week, will share important information on Senator Hillary Clinton and her strength and experience as a leader. In particular, they address a dominant issue for these women - the economic pressure faced by their families everyday.

EMILY's List WOMEN VOTE! has worked for more than a decade to inform and engage women voters in the electoral process on the premise that when women vote, women win. “Women are a critical sector of the electorate in a primary since they tend to make up a large majority of the turnout in an election.” said Maren Hesla, EMILY’s List WOMEN VOTE! director. “It is our hope that through our efforts these women will see what we know to be true – that Senator Hillary Clinton is the candidate with the strength and experience to bring real change to our country.”

Launched in 1995, the historic EMILY’s List WOMEN VOTE! program combines polling and research, advanced information technology, sophisticated message testing, and precinct-by-precinct field work to mobilize millions of women voters across the country. EMILY's List designed WOMEN VOTE! to build a progressive political base that will elect more Democrats, especially women, by helping to increase turnout among women voters year after year.
