EMILY's List Announces Endorsement of Kate Brown for Oregon Secretary of State

WASHINGTON, D.C. – EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest political action committee and financial resource for women running for elective office, today announced its endorsement of Kate Brown in her bid for Oregon secretary of state. Through our Political Opportunity Program, an initiative to mobilize, train, and financially support candidates running at the state and local levels, EMILY’s List has extended its support to Kate Brown.

State Senator Kate Brown began her career in public service over sixteen years ago. Brown was initially appointed to the Oregon House of Representatives in 1991 and proceeded to serve two successful terms in the House before being elected to the Oregon State Senate in 1996. Her impressive leadership skills led to her 1998 election to Democratic leader, where she adeptly brought the Senate Democratic Caucus from a 10-20 minority to an 18-12 majority. With Democrats squarely in the majority, Kate Brown was elected by her caucus to serve as Senate majority leader in 2004. Brown’s record of legislative achievement, garnered through compromise and teamwork will empower her to make the right decisions for Oregon’s future.

“As chair of the Senate Rules Committee and Election and Ethics Committee, I have worked to steward landmark initiative reform legislation and move Oregon to the forefront of transparent campaign finance reporting, all of which has prepared me to step into the position of secretary of state,” said Brown. “I am proud to be allied with the thousands of women and men who are members of EMILY’s List, and will bring experience and integrity to the position of secretary of state for Oregon.”
