WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The following is a statement from Ellen R. Malcolm, president and founder of EMILY’s List, on the election of Barack Obama as the next president of the United States:
“What a proud moment in our nation’s history. My most heartfelt congratulations to President-elect Obama and Vice President-elect Biden, their families, campaign staff, volunteers, supporters, voters -- everyone who participated in this brilliant campaign for change. It is clear from the results tonight that women voters across the country, worried about the economic fate of their families, turned to Barack Obama as the person they could trust to make a difference for middle class families. The Bush years are finally coming to an end, and we now have a leader we can trust to rebuild our economy, strengthen our families, and protect our most cherished rights. Our nation faces many challenges -- but I, for one, look forward to supporting President-elect Obama as he moves us toward a brighter future and restores our standing as a beacon of hope for the world.”
