EMILY's List Announces Endorsement of Ellen Simon for Arizona's 1st Congressional District

Washington, D.C. -- EMILY's List, the nation's largest grassroots political network and financial resource for women running for elective office, today announced its endorsement of Ellen Simon in her bid for Arizona's 1st Congressional District.

"Ellen Simon is a true advocate and champion for the hard working people of northern and eastern Arizona," said Ellen R. Malcolm, president of EMILY's List. "With a distinguished career as an attorney, Ellen has already demonstrated her commitment to protecting the rights of individuals from the special interests. As a Congresswoman, she will work hard for Arizona and EMILY's List is proud to support her campaign for the U.S. House of Representatives in this crucial year for women and Democrats."

Simon has had a distinguished and successful legal career and was instrumental in creating the field of employee protection law, winning numerous landmark cases for workers that others had turned their backs on. She has fought for the rights of people who illegally lost their jobs because of age discrimination. She has defended workers who were fired for needing time off for cancer treatment. And she has stood by senior citizens who were abused in nursing homes.

Simon is the daughter of two Holocaust survivors and was taught from a young age to cherish and respect the freedoms and opportunities she has been given. After graduating from Brandeis University, Simon attended Suffolk University Law School, going on to serve as a law clerk for a federal judge on the United States District Court. Throughout her 25-year legal career, Ellen won numerous landmark rulings upholding the rights of working people.

Simon is running for Congress to bring positive change to Washington. She believes in the hard work and the ingenuity of the American people and knows that the partisan atmosphere prevalent in Congress today is not leading to honest government that supports the people.

With more than 100,000 members, including more than 2,100 in Arizona, EMILY's List is the largest political action committee in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has helped elect 61 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 11 to the U.S. Senate, and eight governors. In only ten election cycles, EMILY's List has helped elect hundreds of pro-choice Democratic women to federal office, state legislatures, state constitutional offices and other key local offices.
