EMILY's List Announces Endorsement of Linda Stender for New Jersey's 7th Congressional District

WASHINGTON, D.C. - EMILY's List, the nation's largest grassroots political network and financial resource for women running for elective office, today announced its endorsement of Linda Stender in her bid for New Jersey's 7th Congressional District.

"Linda Stender is an accomplished elected official from New Jersey," said Ellen R. Malcolm, president of EMILY's List. "As a congresswoman, she will return the right priorities to Congress and stand as a voice for change. EMILY's List considers this to be one of the most important races we are involved in and our membership will lend all its considerable strength to seeing that Linda Stender is victorious."

Stender was re-elected to her third term in the New Jersey General Assembly last year. She serves as vice chairwoman of the Transportation and Public Works Committee and is a member of the Health and Senior Services Committee and the Tourism and Gaming Committee. Stender is known for her success in passing legislation, and has had over 30 pieces of legislation signed into law. Stender is a lifelong resident of New Jersey and served on the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders from 1994 to 2001 and was elected to a four year term as mayor of Fanwood in 1991. Prior to being mayor, she served on the Fanwood Borough Council from 1988 to 1990.

Stender is dedicated to returning the right priorities to Congress, including making healthcare more affordable, increasing security at our borders and ports, and improving education for our children. Democrats have been looking for the opportunity to be competitive in additional congressional districts, and with candidates such as Stender the map has been expanded.

"I am delighted to have earned the support of the thousands of individual women and men who are members of EMILY's List," said Stender. "It is time Congress started focusing on the right priorities. The people of New Jersey deserve a strong voice with me as their new Representative."

With more than 100,000 members, including over 3,400 in New Jersey, EMILY's List is the largest political action committee in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has helped elect 61 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 11 to the U.S. Senate, and eight governors. In only ten election cycles, EMILY's List has helped elect hundreds of pro-choice Democratic women to federal office, state legislatures, state constitutional offices and other key local offices.
