EMILY's List Announces Support of Jennifer Mello for Colorado State Senate

Washington, DC -- EMILY's List, the nation's largest grassroots political network and financial resource for women running for elective office, is proud to announce its backing of Jennifer Mello in her race for Colorado State Senate, District 32. Through the Political Opportunity Program, an initiative to mobilize, train, and financially support candidates running at the state and local levels, EMILY's List has extended its support to Jennifer Mello.

"Jennifer has shown her devotion to democratic and women's issues with strong leadership in both her local and state communities," said Karen M. White, national political director for EMILY's List. "She is an outstanding candidate who is well-qualified to continue her energetic public service by representing the 32nd district in the Colorado State Senate."

Mello has been active in state politics as a member of the Denver Democrats Executive Committee and a leader in organizing efforts to get local and statewide Democrats elected. In 2004 she was elected as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Boston; in the same year, her work as the Policy Director for the House Democrats helped Democrats in their historic takeover of the State House. Before beginning her work in the House, Mello conducted market research as a senior associate at a research and consulting firm. Mello is also active in local politics, as a founding member of the Rocky Mountain Riveters, an influential committee member for electing women, and a past chair of Habitat for Humanity's Women's Build.

"We know Coloradoans have recognized Jennifer's hard work in promoting democratic and women's values in this state," continued White. "EMILY's List is confident that on August 8, voters will select Jennifer as their nominee for the state senate to continue working with the same concern and passion for her community she has had with every leadership position she has undertaken in her past decade of public service."

EMILY's List is the largest political action committee in the nation. EMILY's List has helped elect 61 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 11 to the U.S. Senate, and eight governors. EMILY's List has also helped elect hundreds of pro-choice Democratic women to state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and key local offices. In 2001, EMILY's List expanded its support of pro-choice Democratic women candidates by establishing its Political Opportunity Program (POP). Through POP, EMILY's List is developing and nurturing the next generation of pro-choice Democratic women political leaders by investing in women candidates at the state and local levels.
