EMILY's List Announces Endorsement of Amy Klobuchar for US Senate in Minnesota

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- EMILY's List, the nation's largest political and grassroots network and financial resource for women running for elective office, today announced its endorsement of Amy Klobuchar in her bid for the United States Senate in Minnesota.

"Amy Klobuchar represents the Minnesota values of hard work, fair play and responsibility. As US Senator, she will continue to be a compassionate and powerful champion for her community and her state," said Ellen R. Malcolm, president of EMILY's List. "Throughout her life, Amy has demonstrated that she will stand up and fight for every Minnesotan. Amy has already earned impressive support across Minnesota, and demonstrated that she is our best opportunity to keep a Democratic seat in the US Senate. EMILY's List considers this to be one of our top priority races and our membership will dedicate their considerable strength to seeing that Amy Klobuchar is victorious."

Amy has been elected twice as District Attorney in Hennepin County, Minnesota's largest county, which represents almost a quarter of the state's population. Klobuchar leads an office of nearly 400 people. She has revolutionized the way the Hennepin County Attorney's Office operates and has focused on accountability, aggressively prosecuting violent and career criminals as well as white collar crimes. Serious crime has been substantially reduced during Klobuchar's tenure due to the work of her office, police departments, local businesses, and neighborhood groups. She has earned respect across the state as a leading advocate for the passage of a felony DWI law and state legislation that now guarantees 48-hour hospital stays for new moms and their babies.

As a working wife and mother, Klobuchar has spent her life standing up for people without regard to partisanship or privilege. With family roots on the Iron Range, she grew up in the Twin Cities suburb of Plymouth, attended public schools, and was the valedictorian of her high school class. Her extensive career experience, strong local roots, and statewide momentum in this campaign demonstrate that Klobuchar has what it takes to successfully defend this Democratic Senate seat.

"The people of Minnesota deserve more than a shouting match about what's right and what's left. Minnesotans deserve a candidate - and a US Senator - who's focused on what's right and what's wrong." said Klobuchar. "I am proud to have earned the support of the thousands of individual women and men in Minnesota and across the country who are members of EMILY's List."

This cycle, the Republicans have clearly already chosen their candidate and are eager to consolidate their power in Washington by winning this Senate seat.

EMILY's List is the largest political action committee in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has helped elect 61 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 11 to the U.S. Senate, and eight governors. In only ten election cycles, EMILY's List has helped elect hundreds of pro-choice Democratic women to federal office, state legislatures, state constitutional offices and other key local offices.
