EMILY's List Announces Endorsement of Francine Busby for California's 50th Congressional District
WASHINGTON, DC - EMILY's List, the nation's largest grassroots political network and financial resource for women running for elective office, today announced its endorsement of Francine Busby in her bid for California's 50th Congressional District.
"Francine Busby is a dynamic public official and innovative community leader with a record of getting things done for the people of California's 50th District," said Ellen R. Malcolm, president of EMILY's List. "As a Congresswoman, she will continue the tradition of tough and effective leadership that has been a hallmark of her professional career. EMILY's List considers this to be one of the most dynamic races we are involved in and our membership will lend all its considerable strength to seeing that Francine Busby is victorious."
Busby has an impressive record of public service. She is an elected trustee of the Cardiff School District Board, where she has worked to make the district's schools among the most fiscally and academically sound in California. She is the past president of the Cardiff Education Foundation, where she led the effort to improve technology in classrooms. Busby has also actively participated in the Cardiff Chamber of Commerce, the San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy, and the California School Board Association.
Busby is an innovative and forward thinking leader who called for congressional ethics reform long before the current situation occurred in California's 50th Congressional District. Her far reaching proposal calls for banning outside financial relationships with government contractors, eliminating anonymous appropriations, and banning all privately funded congressional travel. Busby was the only candidate in this race to ask for Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham's resignation – she was principled and confident as her opponents stood by and waited.
"I am proud to have earned the support of the thousands of individual women and men who are members of EMILY's List," said Busby. "It is time for a breath of fresh air in Congress and it is time to restore ethics to Congress. The people of California deserve a clean start with me as their new Representative."
With more than 100,000 members, including over 19,500 in California, EMILY's List is the largest political action committee in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has helped elect 61 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 11 to the U.S. Senate, and eight governors. In only ten election cycles, EMILY's List has helped elect hundreds of pro-choice Democratic women to federal office, state legislatures, state constitutional offices and other key local offices.
