EMILY'S List Endorses Patsy Keever for North Carolina's 11th U.S. Congressional District

WASHINGTON, D.C. - EMILY's List, the largest financial resource for women running for elective office, today announced its support for Patsy Keever in her bid to represent the 11th District of North Carolina in the U.S. House.

EMILY's List will recommend Keever to its nationwide network of members, opening the door to tens of thousands of donors eager to elect a pro-choice Democratic woman to Congress who will fight for the issues they care about. Keever, a county commissioner and former public school teacher, has a long record of serving the people of western North Carolina.

"For more than 30 years, Patsy Keever has devoted her considerable energy to helping improve life for the people of western North Carolina," said Ellen R. Malcolm, president of EMILY's List. "They need someone with her passion and dedication representing them in Washington. Patsy's commitment to protecting and creating jobs, strengthening education, and expanding access to affordable healthcare would represent a welcome change in the U.S. Congress for these communities."

With 25 years of teaching experience and 12 years of experience as a Buncombe County Commissioner, Keever has been a tireless advocate for North Carolina's families. Thanks to Keever's work to establish innovative programs that encourage job creation and her efforts to improve education, she's been named "Best County Commissioner" five times by a local newspaper. In Congress, Keever will continue to work for balanced fiscal planning that invests in quality education, affordable healthcare, and new jobs.

Noting that Keever's campaign is getting extensive support from community leaders and officials in the 11th District, Malcolm added, "The members of EMILY's List look forward to joining the growing number of people who are supporting her campaign for Congress. Western North Carolina is ready for change, and Patsy Keever is the woman who will deliver it."

With over 84,000 members nationwide, EMILY's List expects to be a considerable fundraising force for Keever in her campaign for this swing seat.

"I am thrilled to be working with EMILY's List to bring positive change to the people of western North Carolina. The endorsement is a powerful step that will help energize our campaign, build momentum, and allow us to strengthen our grassroots foundation," Keever said of her endorsement.

Keever joins the list of 14 women already endorsed by EMILY's List this cycle who are sure to change the face of power come November. In its 19-year history, EMILY's List has helped elect seven women governors, 11 women to the United States Senate and 55 women to the U.S. House of Representatives. In the 2002 elections, EMILY's List, which then had 73,000 members contributed nearly $9.7 million to pro-choice Democratic women candidates; members contributed $23 million to fund EMILY's List operations and political program, including the nationwide WOMEN VOTE! project to mobilize women voters on behalf of Democrats.
